10 things we’re looking forward to this year

10 things we’re looking forward to this year

Welcome Back

Every new school year brings a sense of anticipation. This year, we are particularly excited to share new academic courses and parent resources, and prepare for the referendum projects that will benefit our students, staff and the community.

10.  Rise to the challenge

Exciting academic opportunities await our students this year! Brearley is offering Advanced Placement (AP) Seminar and Pre-Calculus courses, and a new science program will help middle schoolers learn about real-world investigations of scientific phenomena. Grant funding will help support state-mandated climate change education for all grades.

9. Return to routine

The Leader Board blog is a place to find reflections and insights on education and leadership throughout the year. The latest post offers tips on transitioning from easy summer days to a structured school routine.

8. Partnering with parents

Engaging parents is a key to students’ success. We want parents to be familiar with what students are learning so they are better able to support them at home. Parents can stay updated on the district’s academic programs through a new curriculum and learning website. Harding parents will be invited to hear more about classroom work during Curriculum Learning Evenings. We’ll share more details about the launch of both soon!

7. Field days

Score one for the home team! The district is preparing to award a construction contract for a new synthetic turf field and track, and other grounds upgrades. The athletic area projects are funded through our 2022 “Taking the Leap” bond referendum. For more about the projects, visit kenilworthschools.com/leap. Go Bears!

6. Well and good

We are continuing our focus on social-emotional learning and mental health. A tiered system of supports helps identify and address individual student needs, which may include skills groups for anxiety management and self-esteem, referrals for more intensive services, or a level of assistance somewhere in between.

5. Functional furniture

Several classrooms will soon be transformed with nontraditional furniture, creating more flexible learning spaces for our students. These spaces support students’ educational needs by helping them stay focused, engaged, and offering more collaboration time in the classroom.

4. Sneak previews

We will continue sharing details about school construction projects as plans develop. For now, we can pull the curtain back on the new seat selections for the Harding and Brearley auditoriums, which will both be renovated through referendum funding.

3. Bear facts

The Bear Print, Brearley’s newspaper, continues a tradition of student journalism with monthly editions that include articles, poetry, and food and entertainment reviews. We look forward to another year of all the news that’s fun to read!

2. Revised Brearley schedule

David Brearley Middle-High School will follow a new bell schedule this year. The revised schedule allows for more total daily instruction per class over the course of the year.

1. Welcome back!

We look forward to an enjoyable and successful year for all of our students and staff!
