SAT/ACT

STANDARDIZED TESTING INFORMATION (CEEB Code 310663)

Since most colleges and universities still ask for standardized test scores, it is important that students take these tests before applying. The degree to which standardized tests (SAT/ACT) are used in the admission process differs by colleges. Your test scores will not be the single most important factor in the admission decision. They will be used as one element in the overall assessment of your academic strength and promise.

SAT

The SAT remains the most popular test. Students will need to create an account on https://www.collegeboard.org/ in order to sign up for the SAT. Dates, testing locations, costs, and additional testing information can be found on the CollegeBoard website. Please see your counselor to find out if your eligible for a fee waiver!

Students are encouraged to take the SAT at least once during their junior year. Many 11th grade students will take it twice, typically during the spring of their junior year, and then again if a third attempt is necessary in the fall of senior year.

SAT SUBJECT TESTS

Students are responsible for knowing which of their college choices require these tests, how many tests they need to take, and which subjects are recommended or required to take. Typically, the most selective institutions will require the SAT Subject Tests. List of Schools that require/recommend SAT subject tests.

ACT

Most colleges will accept the ACT in lieu of the SAT, but it is your responsibility to make sure. The ACT contains a science component, which can be a plus for those students interested in demonstrating their science ability to colleges. ACT’s writing portion is optional, but it is strongly recommended that all students take it. Students will need to create an account on http://www.act.org/ in order to sign up for the ACT.
