Ms. Spony - Art

HI my wonderful Harding School Artists! Welcome back to school!!!

I'm hoping we will be together again for art in person in the art room soon, but in the meantime you have proven what a great job you can do from home.  I will give all your teachers the codes to join art Google Classrooms for grades 1-6 at the beginning of the year as well as post them here.

All Harding students K-6 have been added to Artsonia.    Artsonia is a wonderful site that keeps student work in a digital portfolio which gets added to throughout the years.   Students can write about their work and view the work of other Harding artists.  They can also leave kind comments for other artists in the school.  The app can be downloaded for free on any phone or tablet and is easy to use.   To upload artwork to Harding's gallery, just download the app,  then click on Student, then select the keyboard and enter the code MTJD-HWSF.

ART SHOW

From March to June Harding students uploaded 2,930 pieces of art from home!  It was wonderful seeing your creativity shine and I can't wait to see what you do this year!!  I also plan on doing another virtual art show this year.  If you missed it last year, take a look by clicking the picture below!

I will try to keep the supplies you will need to work from home very basic, most of which you probably already have.

If you can get the following that would be great :

Crayons and/or colored pencils
Markers
A fine point sharpie (although a black crayon will do)
A watercolor paint set
A pair of scissors
Glue
Blank paper

( You can of course get additional supplies you want to use like construction paper, oil crayons, tempra paint, ect.)

If any of you are in need of certain art supplies that you can't get, drop me a message.   [email protected]

There are many fun and exciting things are going on this year in the art room!

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Weaving
  • Sculpture
  • Mask-making
  • Art History
  • Printmaking
  • MORE!:)

Why is Art Education Important?

Art education:

  • Helps develop self-esteem
  • Is an outlet for self-expression
  • Encourages cooperation
  • Develops thinking and problem solving skills
  • Can help visual learners more easily grasp a concept in other curriculum areas.
  • Teaches people about different cultures fostering tolerance of others
  • Contributes to success in schooling –increased attendance and higher SAT scores
  • Helps to develop better eye-hand coordination which can improve their performance in sports
  • Aids students in many life skills: flexibility, creativity, the ability to solve problems, communication, the ability to learn new skills, to be creative and innovative, and to strive for excellence
  • Important because 1 in 3 children in classrooms today will work in an arts-related job at some point in their careers.
