Mission Statement
The mission of the Kenilworth School District School Counseling program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. School counselors are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. In partnership with other educators, parents/guardians, and the community, school counselors facilitate the support system to ensure all students in Kenilworth have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.
Middle School Counseling Program
Expanding upon the life/transitional skills taught to the children through the elementary counseling curriculum, the middle school program offers a strong counseling curriculum-based program in areas of education, career exploration, and personal/social issues. The curriculum is carried out through group guidance programs, counseling groups, and individual counseling. Middle school counselors work with their students to select courses for 9 th grade as well as to develop a tentative four year high school plan. Daily consultation with parents and teachers as well as collaborative partnership with the community is an integral part of the counseling role, which facilitates communication among families, teachers, and students. Additionally, middle school counselors conduct parent programs throughout the school year and facilitate students’ transition throughout the middle school years as well as into high school.
