WHAT ARE SOME SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM?
The middle school program is housed in the second
floor of the David Brearley facility and operates under a
School-Within-A-School administrative structure. Middle School students
are supported by an Assistant Principal and a Counselor. Students have
their own mascot, the Bruin.
David Brearley provides 7th and 8th grade students
with a solid instructional program utilizing a 9-period daily bell schedule.
Mathematics, Social Studies, Language Arts, Science, Health and
Physical Education are the integral parts of the middle school
instructional program. Highly trained teachers employ a wide range of
instructional techniques and utilize existing technologies to enhance
student learning.
Students are also provided an opportunity to explore a variety of
subject areas during their middle school years through a series of
"cycle" courses. These include an Introduction to Spanish and Italian,
art, Music, and Technology.
Advanced high school level instruction is provide to qualified students
in Mathematics, Science, Spanish and Italian. In addition, honors level
coursework is provided in Language Arts.
Students benefit from an extensive extra- curricular activity program,
which includes student government, clubs, band, chorus, and
interscholastic athletic competition in seven sports.
They are supported in their social interactions through a program of
Peer Mediation and in their academic pursuits through Peer Tutoring.
