David Brearley Middle/High School Goals for 2024-2025:

1. Strengthening the Transition from Middle to High School:

To better support students moving from middle to high school, we are focusing on creating a clear distinction between the two levels in terms of student experience and programming. Although middle and high school students share the same physical building, we want to ensure that middle school students are adequately prepared for the transition to high school.

Key initiatives include:

  • A "DBHS Electives Tasting" for 8th-grade students, giving them a preview of high school course options.
  • Presentations on the High School Program of Studies led by the high school counseling staff.
  • A dedicated Open House for incoming 9th-grade students and their parents.

These activities will help ease students' transition by familiarizing them with high school opportunities and expectations.

2. Preparing for the Introduction of 6th Grade at DBMS:

In preparation for welcoming 6th-grade students to DBMS starting in the 2025-2026 school year, we are laying the groundwork in several critical areas. This planning includes:

  • Budgeting for additional resources and staff.
  • Staffing adjustments to meet the needs of younger students.
  • Scheduling considerations to integrate 6th-grade students into the existing school structure.
  • Communication plans for parents and students.
  • Allocating room usage to accommodate the new grade level.

These preparations will ensure a smooth and successful integration of 6th-grade students into DBMS.

3. Sustaining and Enhancing Academic Achievement:

Over the past three years, our students have shown a positive trend in test scores across multiple assessments, including the SAT, PSAT, NJGPA, NJSLA, and AP exams. This goal focuses on maintaining and further improving these achievements while also addressing areas where growth is needed.

Strategies to support this goal include:

  • Analyzing performance data to identify strengths and target areas for improvement.
  • Providing targeted academic interventions for students in need of additional support.
  • Continuing professional development for staff to ensure high-quality instruction.
  • Expanding access to advanced courses and enrichment opportunities.

By sustaining the momentum and focusing on strategic growth, we aim to further enhance student outcomes across all key assessments.

Harding Elementary School Goals for 2024-2025:

  1. By June 2025, identified students will receive targeted support through MTSS, with academic and behavioral interventions documented and monitored for effectiveness, resulting in improved student outcomes as measured by academic growth and behavioral data.
    • Improved progress monitoring
    • SEL/Behavior- Implementation of SAEBRS and using data effectively
    • Streamlined process
  2. By June 2025, we will increase family engagement in student learning, as measured by participation in school events, parent-teacher conferences, and feedback surveys.
  • Host family nights focused on academic content and school culture.
  • Increase communication through newsletters, social media, and parent workshops.

Establish regular opportunities for families to volunteer or engage with classrooms.
