High School Program

WHAT ARE SOME SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM?

The David Brearley High School program offers a comprehensive high school educational program which includes both basic and advanced levels of instruction in a wide variety of subject areas including language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, world languages, the arts, office system technology, family/consumer science and health/physical education.

Students have the opportunity to enroll in 8 classes per school year. Staff members are able to utilize technology and state-of-the-art laboratory equipment to enhance their instruction and provide hands-on learning experiences for students.

For qualified students, more than 20 honors and advanced placement courses are available. In addition, selected students are also provided with and on-line opportunity to access additional advanced placement coursework through the Virtual High School program. Students interested in vocational/technical education have the opportunity to receive instruction at the Union County Vocational Technical High School on a shared-time basis.

David Brearley supports the arts through a wide variety of classes and activities that provide artistic explorations for the general student population or the opportunity for talented students to perform or exhibit their work. Art, music and drama are an integral part of the school's program.

Academic excellence is supported and encouraged in many ways. The Renaissance Program provides tangible awards to students who increase their achievement. An Academic Booster Club provides supportive activities related to academic achievement and the school sponsors a growing National Honor Society Chapter.

Students benefit from an extensive extra-curricular activity program which includes a variety of clubs related to both the social and academic needs/interests of adolescents. Students also have the opportunity to compete at varsity and sub-varsity levels in more than a dozen sports.

The educational program is led by a Principal and supported by an Assistant Principal. A full range of guidance services are also provided.
